Temporary buildings: types and features
Relocatable temporary building or free-standing temporary building installation can occur on almost every surface. The industrial unit is useful for those businesses that want to increase their warehouse facilities. Actually, a temporary tunnel can be placed next to an already existing warehouse whenever the company needs to enlarge the warehouse facilities to cope with seasonal output variability or even when the removable building serves as a connection between preexisting blocks. Furthermore, it could also take the form of a stand-alone building for protecting working equipment from bad weather.
Different types of temporary tunnels can be arranged, each with its own closing system and roof.
The building is made of PVC textile roof and side walls, whereas front and back ends may include many other opening/closing mechanisms according to their purpose. In particular, the passageway can be closed with manual sliding curtains but also with roll-up and fold-up doors.
As far as the top cover is concerned, it is usually a gable roof. However, it is possible to provide a single slope roof whenever there are specific landscape and architectural restraints.
In some countries it is possible to get tax reduction by choosing temporary buildings; for further information please refer to local rules.
Temporary tunnel – applications
Temporary tunnels are versatile and may occur in several sectors. Free-standing structures are suitable for multiple applications, such as:
- Permanent or temporary warehouse: the company need to expand the warehouse available space to shelter raw materials or goods for sale. Transient tunnels may also effectively serve as equipment storage;
- Production department extension: Some businesses increase their productivity at certain times of the year and may demand additional space to collect the goods produced. For these specific situations, temporary buildings represent the perfect solution;
- Goods and raw material storage: relocatable temporary structures allow to shelter the space destined for loading and unloading processes also under inclement weather conditions;
- Equipment and vehicle repository.

Manufacturing and installation of temporary tunnels
Temporary tunnels are highly adaptable free-standing buildings because of their structure and sliding mechanisms; the sliding option allows flexibility through steel wheels treated with specific lubricating oils and anti-derailment devices.
In line with the demand, relocatable temporary buildings are individually custom-built. Clients are asked to choose the closing system that best fits their expectations as well as decide whether to install extra accessories such as speed doors, curtains or lighting.
The installation is quick, within a maximum of 60 days from the start date.
These steel structures are durable and strong thanks to the galvanized steel and the fire-retardant-treated PVC sheet; the combination of the two enhances the safety degree.
